Gemini’s Automated Business Call Service: Say Goodbye to Hold Times

A new “early experiment” feature launched by Google on Pixel 11 allows users to delegate local business calls to Gemini. This feature enables users to perform tasks such as making reservations, checking product availability, and rescheduling appointments through Gemini without initiating the call themselves.

Instead of manually dialing, users can instruct Gemini to make the call on their behalf using the Gemini app on their Pixel device. Gemini will handle the entire conversation process, including introducing itself, navigating phone menus, waiting on hold, and engaging with the recipient. Users have full control throughout the call, with access to a live transcript view and the option to take over the conversation whenever necessary.

Last year, Google introduced a similar “Call for me” feature that utilized AI to inquire about product availability at local businesses. However, this feature did not offer users the ability to intervene in the calls. Meta is also developing an automated phone call feature for its Muse AI agent, with potential human involvement in the calls. The new AI calling feature from Google is now available as an “early preview” for Gemini paid subscribers participating in the Phone by Google Public Beta on Pixel 11 devices in the United States.
