The Future of Apple’s Screenless Fitness Tracker

The development of Apple’s screenless fitness tracker is still uncertain, with a potential release not expected before 2028. This device, if it comes to fruition, could showcase Apple’s unique design approach in the wearable technology market.

Recent trends in the industry, as seen with products like the Fitbit Air and Garmin Cirqa, indicate a growing interest in distraction-free devices and a shift towards a software-centric focus.

While the latest Samsung Galaxy Watch 9 and Apple Watch Series 12 may lack significant new features, they have both expanded their software offerings for fitness tracking. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 9 now includes features such as Fitness Index and Daily Cardio Load, similar to the Whoop platform.

Apple’s Health app recently received a significant update to utilize the enhanced sensors of the Apple Watch Series 12. However, the Apple Fitness app has seen minimal changes over the years and could benefit from a similar revamp, especially if it aligns with the release of a screenless fitness tracker.

If Apple’s fitness tracker enters the market, positioning it against existing wearables like the Apple Watch SE 3 will be crucial. The tracker may need to be priced lower than the SE 3 to avoid overlap or could be marketed as a complementary device to work alongside the Apple Watch, similar to the Whoop Strap.

Whether Apple’s screenless fitness tracker becomes a reality remains to be seen, but its potential impact on the wearable tech market is worth monitoring as the industry continues to evolve towards software-driven and distraction-free devices.
