Secure Messaging: Apple Introduces Encrypted RCS Chats for iPhone Users
Apple Introduces Encrypted RCS Conversations with Android Users in iOS 26.5
Apple has recently rolled out a new feature in iOS 26.5 that allows users to have encrypted RCS conversations with Android users through the Messages app. This update, released on Monday, introduces end-to-end encrypted RCS messaging in beta, ensuring that neither Apple nor Google can access the messages while they are being sent.
Users on iOS 26.5 will notice a lock icon and a “Encrypted” message at the top of the chat, indicating that they are engaged in an encrypted conversation with an Android user on a carrier that supports the feature. Encryption is enabled by default and will gradually become active for both new and existing RCS conversations. Android users must also be using the latest version of Google Messages to take advantage of this feature, which Apple began testing earlier this year.
Additional Features in iOS 26.5
In addition to encrypted RCS conversations, iOS 26.5 brings new wallpapers and introduces ads in Maps. Users may now see local advertisements on Maps based on their location, search terms, or map view. Apple assures users that advertising information is not linked to their Apple account.
Other Updates from Apple
Alongside iOS 26.5, Apple has released updates for iPadOS 26.5, macOS Tahoe 26.5, watchOS 26.5, tvOS 26.5, and visionOS 26.5 on Monday, providing a comprehensive range of enhancements across its ecosystem.
