Exclusive Spy Shots: BMW iX4 (NA7) Roofline Unveiled at Nürburgring
A recent sighting of a camouflaged prototype of the BMW iX4, known internally as NA7, near the Nürburgring has revealed some key design elements. The iX4 features a distinctly sloped roofline and a shorter rear overhang compared to its predecessor, the iX3. The front end of the iX4 closely resembles that of the iX3, with minimal changes to the overall design.
When the camouflage is removed, the sleek and aerodynamic design of the iX4 becomes more apparent. The raked roofline not only enhances the car’s aesthetics but also improves its drag coefficient, contributing to better performance. BMW is likely to emphasize this design element when the iX4 is officially launched.
The iX4 continues BMW’s tradition of offering coupe-roofed SUVs, which began with the E71 X6 in 2007. The electric-only iX4 takes over from its combustion engine predecessor, the X4, marking a shift towards electric mobility in BMW’s lineup.
Sharing the same Neue Klasse platform as the iX3, the iX4 offers similar performance and features. With a shared battery pack, power figures, and 800V charging capability supporting fast charging up to 400 kW, the iX4 is expected to deliver impressive performance and efficiency.
The lineup for the iX4 includes the 40 xDrive and 50 xDrive variants, set to debut in November 2026, with an M60 xDrive model following in March 2027. An electric X4 M variant is also in the works, rumored to feature a quad-motor setup with at least 800 horsepower.
Unlike its predecessors, the iX4 will be exclusively produced at BMW’s Debrecen plant in Hungary, alongside the iX3. This marks a departure from previous production locations like Spartanburg, South Carolina, highlighting BMW’s commitment to electric vehicle manufacturing in Europe.
Overall, the BMW iX4 represents a new chapter in the brand’s electric vehicle lineup, combining innovative design with cutting-edge technology for a truly modern driving experience. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new addition to the BMW family.
