The Latest Microsoft Surface Models: X2 Surfaces

Microsoft has announced the release of the new X2 Surfaces, which are now available for purchase. Among the new offerings are the Surface Pro 12th Edition convertible tablet and the Surface Laptop 8th Edition.

Surface Pro 12th Edition

The Surface Pro 12th Edition comes in a 13-inch size and is equipped with either a 10-core X2 Plus or a 12-core X2 Elite chip. The starting price for the Pro is $1,499, which includes 256GB of storage. Additional accessories such as a keyboard or stylus can be added for an extra cost.

Surface Laptop 8th Edition

The Surface Laptop 8th Edition is available in 13.8-inch and 15-inch sizes, with the same X2 Plus / X2 Elite configurations as the Surface Pro. The starting price for the Laptop is $1,599, which includes a 512GB SSD and 16GB of RAM.

Commercial Versions and Pricing

Microsoft also announced commercial versions of the X2 Surface Laptop 8 and Surface Pro 12, set to launch later. The Surface for Business X2 models are expected to be available on July 14th, with starting prices of $1,649.99.

Features and Performance

Microsoft touts the new X2 Surface generation for its significantly faster graphics performance and excellent battery life. The Surface Pro offers up to 15.5 hours of local video playback, while the Laptop boasts up to 20 hours. Both models come in new color options and maintain a similar design to the previous generation.

The Surface Laptop 8th Edition features an LCD display, while the Surface Pro 8th Edition offers an optional OLED display. Both models retain the 3:2 aspect ratio for increased vertical screen real estate.

Comparison to Previous Models

With the introduction of the X2 Surface models, Microsoft has opted for the X2 Plus and X2 Elite chips, as well as the Nvidia RTX Spark in the upcoming Surface Laptop Ultra. The prices of the new models are higher than those of the previous generation, making them less competitive in the market.

While Microsoft’s Surface hardware is known for its quality, the price increase and lack of significant changes from previous models may deter some consumers. Despite this, the new X2 Surface models offer improved performance and design options for users seeking the latest technology.
