Meta’s Forum is part Reddit, part Facebook, and part Google AI Overview

Introducing Meta’s New Forum App for iPhones

Meta has launched a new Forum app for iPhones, designed to enhance the Facebook Groups experience by providing a dedicated platform with an AI chatbot feature. This innovative app is reminiscent of the ill-fated Groups app that Facebook discontinued in 2017.

Enhanced Group Interaction with Meta’s AI Chatbot

Forum users now have the convenience of accessing, searching, and posting advice directly within their Facebook groups. The optional AI assistance from Meta’s chatbot streamlines the experience, making it a seamless integration for users.

Seamless Integration with Facebook Groups

Upon logging in with a Facebook account, Forum automatically imports the user’s existing groups from Facebook. The feed is populated with posts from these groups, as well as suggestions from other groups. This feature is similar to the Reddit feed, albeit without the anonymity associated with Reddit.

Streamlined Group Management and Interaction

Unlike Facebook’s interface, Forum places groups at the forefront of the user experience. Users can easily navigate their groups, view a condensed version of their profile focusing on group posts, explore new groups, and post directly to specific groups.

AI-Powered Assistance with Forum’s Chatbot

Forum’s AI chatbot resides under the “Ask” tab, providing users with AI-generated responses based on content from various Facebook groups. This functionality is akin to Google’s search results and AI summaries that draw from licensed Reddit content and other online sources.

Personalized Assistance and Recommendations

By engaging with the AI chatbot, users can seek advice and recommendations tailored to their interests. For instance, asking about “Magic: The Gathering” yielded relevant insights sourced from Magic groups, along with suggestions for local groups in New Jersey. Users can explore referenced posts for a deeper understanding of the topic.
