Google Rolls Out Android 17 Update with Exclusive Features for Pixel Phones

Google has officially started the rollout of the highly anticipated Android 17 update to compatible Pixel phones. This update comes with a range of exclusive features as part of the June Pixel Drop. However, not all the features that were announced alongside the operating system at the pre-I/O Android Show are available immediately.

Exciting Features of Android 17 Update

The Android 17 update introduces a significant user interface upgrade with the addition of Bubbles. These are floating app windows that can be accessed with a long press, enhancing multitasking capabilities. Google has optimized Bubbles for larger screens by incorporating a dedicated “bubble bar” dock at the bottom of the screen, particularly beneficial for foldables and tablets.

Another noteworthy feature included in the update is Screen Reactions, which simplifies the process of recording selfie videos while screen-recording. Additionally, foldable devices will receive new gaming controls that display a touchscreen gamepad on the lower half of the screen. All Android phones will also benefit from native controller remapping. The update further enhances security with expanded parental controls and security features.

Exclusive Features for Pixel Phones

Pixel phone users can look forward to several exclusive features, many of which are expansions of existing functionalities. The Gemini Omni model will be available in the Gemini app, enabling users to create videos from text prompts. Additionally, Lyria 3 allows users to create music videos using similar prompts. AirDrop support through Quick Share is expanding to the Pixel 8A and 9A models, while Voice Translate for phone calls will be introduced on the Pixel 10A. Take a Message feature will now be accessible on all Pixel models from the 6 series onwards, except in India where it remains exclusive to the 10 series. Other enhancements include conversational editing in Google Photos, which will now be available in select European countries, and Magic Cue suggestions in messaging apps.

Upcoming Features

While the current rollout includes a host of exciting features, Google has hinted at more to come. Advanced devices can expect the arrival of new Gemini Intelligence features later this summer, featuring the Rambler transcription tool, AI-generated widgets, and expanded Task Automation. Redesigned emoji and the Pause Point well-being tool are among the features awaiting an official release date.
