Mercedes Recalls Over 58,000 Cars in Australia Due to Manufacturing Flaw

Mercedes has recently issued a recall in Australia affecting more than 58,000 vehicles across various product ranges, including several AMG models. The recall pertains to cars manufactured between 2018 and 2026 and is due to a specific manufacturing flaw that poses a risk of vehicle rollaway.

The recall notice highlights the issue, stating that “Due to a manufacturing defect, the door-lock microswitch may be susceptible to water damage and could potentially fail. In such cases, the door may not register as open, leading to the auto park feature malfunctioning.”

The consequences of this malfunction are grave, as the loss of the auto park feature can result in unintended vehicle movement, thus escalating the risk of accidents that could lead to injury or even fatalities for vehicle occupants and other road users. Mercedes advises drivers to always engage the Park position on the gear selector and apply the parking brake as outlined in the Owner’s Manual before exiting the vehicle.

This recall by Mercedes in Australia impacts a broad range of standard and high-performance AMG variants, encompassing models from A-Class, B-Class, C-Class, CLA, and CLE, to GLA, GLB, GLC, and the all-electric EQA.
