Google’s Exciting Update: Easily Change Your Gmail Address!
Google to Allow Changing Gmail Address: What You Need to Know
Google is set to introduce a new feature that will finally allow users to change their @gmail address or create a new alias. This update comes as a welcome change, as previously users were limited in their ability to modify their email addresses within the Gmail platform.
The new feature, as mentioned in a support document, is already being rolled out by Google. This feature will not only enable users to switch between different aliases for their emails but also change their core “@gmail.com” address.
This move by Google aims to provide users with greater control over their email addresses. According to Google, the email address associated with your Google Account is crucial for identification and signing into Google services.
Google explained, “If you’d like, you can change your Google Account email address that ends in gmail.com to a new email address that ends in gmail.com.” This flexibility will give users more customization options for their Gmail accounts.
While Google has not officially announced the feature, the existence of the support document suggests that the rollout is underway. It is worth noting that the support document is currently available only in Hindi, indicating a limited rollout that may be testing the feature in India before a wider release.
Limited rollout
If you have access to the feature, you can expect to find it in the Settings section of your Gmail account. The Settings page will likely include a link to the support document, guiding users on how to change their email addresses.
Other email providers like Outlook and Proton have long offered the ability to switch between different aliases, and now Gmail is catching up with this functionality.
It is important to note that changing your @gmail.com address will not deactivate the original address. Users will likely have two @gmail.com addresses, serving as aliases for the same account.
As for the full rollout of the Gmail address change feature, Google has not provided a specific timeline. Users will have to wait for the feature to become available to all accounts.
