The End of an Era: Toyota Fortuner Discontinued

The Toyota Fortuner, a popular seven-seat off-road SUV based on the HiLux ute, has been officially discontinued by the Japanese automaker. Despite its strong sales performance, the Fortuner is not expected to make a return to Toyota’s lineup.

With the recent launch of the updated ‘new-generation’ HiLux, there is speculation that a new Fortuner could potentially borrow key features from Toyota’s latest ute, which would likely appeal to buyers.

Despite its discontinuation in 2025, sales of the Fortuner saw a 12% year-on-year increase, indicating strong consumer demand for the large off-road SUV.

The latest HiLux features updated front and rear designs, enhanced suspension, new safety technologies, and an all-new interior. The 2.8-liter turbo-diesel engine remains consistent across the HiLux range.

Digital Renderings of a Potential New Fortuner

Artist Theottle has created digital renderings that envision what a new Fortuner could look like with the exterior changes of the 2026 HiLux applied to it. The design features unique tail-lights and a distinct tailgate to differentiate it from its sibling.

While the idea of a Fortuner with the latest HiLux aesthetics may seem like a straightforward modification, previous-generation utes in Thailand have been ‘converted’ to the new model by simply swapping out lights, bumpers, and quarter panels before the official release.
