Protecting Your Privacy: How Google Can Assist in Removing Your ID from Search Results
Google Enhances Tools for Removing Sensitive Information from Search Results
Google has recently announced an expansion of its tools aimed at helping users remove sensitive information and nonconsensual images from its search results. This update allows users to utilize the “results about you” tool to eliminate personal data such as driver’s license, passport, Social Security number, phone number, and address from search results.
Protecting Your Privacy with Google’s “Results About You” Tool
Upon entering your information into Google’s “results about you” tool, the platform will display search results containing your data and provide you with the option to request removal. Google ensures the security of the information entered into the tool through advanced encryption. Users can also opt to receive notifications when new search results containing their personal data are detected, although it’s important to note that the tool does not completely remove the information from the web. This feature will soon be available in the US, with plans for further expansion to other regions.
Combatting Nonconsensual Explicit Images with Google’s Updated Tool
In addition to enhancing privacy protection, Google is also focusing on preventing the spread of nonconsensual explicit images in its search results. Users can now request the removal of such images by selecting the three dots at the top of a picture, choosing “remove results,” and indicating that the image shows a sexual content of them. The updated tool allows users to request the removal of multiple images simultaneously and opt-in for proactive filtering of similar explicit content in the future. This feature will soon be available in most countries.
