Microsoft will let you pause Windows Updates indefinitely, 35 days at a time

Microsoft Improves Windows Update Experience for Users

Windows users can now rejoice as Microsoft introduces long-awaited changes to the Windows Update process. Users on the Dev and Experimental Windows Insider channels will have the ability to delay updates for up to 35 days, providing more flexibility and control over when updates are installed.

In response to user feedback, Microsoft announced several upcoming improvements to Windows 11, with a focus on making updates less disruptive. One significant change is the option to extend the pause end date for updates indefinitely, allowing users to manage updates according to their schedule. If updates are not paused, they will run as usual at the end of the 35-day period.

Another enhancement to Windows Update includes more detailed titles for driver updates, specifying the device class they apply to, such as display, audio, or battery. This change aims to provide users with clearer information about the updates being installed on their systems.

Windows 11 users will now have more control over updates, with options in the power menu to restart or shut down without running updates. Additionally, users setting up a new Windows device can choose to skip updates during the initial setup process. Microsoft is streamlining the update experience by grouping updates together to minimize the need for frequent reboots. Updates will now download in the background and wait for a coordinated installation and restart, reducing interruptions for users.
