Peugeot’s Massive Price Cuts in Australia Signal Uncertain Future for French Brand

Peugeot is currently offering generous discounts on both its passenger cars and commercial vans in Australia as the future of its distributorship in the country remains uncertain. Last month, the current distributor, Inchcape, announced its decision to give up distribution rights to the Peugeot brand after a tenure of over nine years.

Despite this change, Stellantis, the global owner of Peugeot, has confirmed that the brand will continue to operate in Australia, unlike its sister brand Citroen, which exited the market following the end of Inchcape’s distributorship last year. Stellantis is now deciding whether to appoint a new local distributor or manage Peugeot’s operations in Australia directly.

In the meantime, Inchcape is running significant discount offers on the remaining Peugeot vehicles in stock as it transitions out of its involvement with the brand. Several models have been included in the campaign, with savings exceeding $10,000 on certain passenger models. One of the most substantial discounts is on the E-Expert electric van, with potential savings of nearly $27,000.

Stellantis has positioned Peugeot as one of its key global brands alongside Jeep, Ram, and Fiat. In Australia, Stellantis already manages Fiat, Alfa Romeo, and Jeep, while independent importer Ateco Automotive handles Ram and Maserati.

The discounts offered by Inchcape are not limited to specific model years, providing potential buyers with a variety of options. Passenger vehicles from Peugeot come with a five-year unlimited-kilometer warranty and roadside assistance, while commercial vehicles are covered by a five-year/200,000km warranty. The E-Expert electric van also comes with an eight-year/160,000km warranty for its high-voltage battery.
