Moss developer Polyarc share that they're shutting down just two months after releasing a VR-less port of the beloved mousey adventure games

Polyarc, Developer of Moss Games, Shuts Down After 12 Years

It is a somber day for the gaming community as Polyarc, the studio behind the popular Moss series, has announced its closure. The news came via a message on the developer’s LinkedIn page, stating that they are ending “active development.” This marks the end of an era for Polyarc, who has been in the industry for nearly 12 years, creating joyous experiences for gamers. As they bid farewell to each other, the team expressed gratitude for the honor of working together and the privilege of bringing surprise and delight to players through their games. The statement also included a link to a spreadsheet with contact information for the team members, in case other studios are looking to hire talented developers.

Polyarc, founded in 2015, gained recognition with the release of their first game, Moss, in 2018. This VR adventure puzzle game follows the journey of a mouse named Quill on a mission to save her uncle. The game received critical acclaim, leading to the release of its sequel, Moss: Book 2, in 2022. In addition to the Moss series, Polyarc ventured into the VR competitive gaming scene with Glassbreakers: Champions of Moss, which unfortunately did not achieve significant success based on limited reviews. The studio’s latest project, Moss: The Forgotten Relic, a pseudo-remaster combining the first two games without VR support, may have contributed to the decision to cease active development.

While the exact reasons for Polyarc’s closure remain undisclosed, the challenges of the VR gaming industry may have played a role. Despite the difficulties, Polyarc’s dedication to the craft for over a decade is commendable. The studio’s perseverance in a competitive market is a testament to their passion for creating immersive gaming experiences. Our thoughts are with the team members and their future endeavors in the gaming industry.
