Long-time Microsoft Head of Communications Departs After Nearly Two Decades
Transitioning from Microsoft After Nearly Three Decades
After dedicating 17 years to a role and almost 29 years to the company, I have made the decision to explore new opportunities. This transition, discussed at length with Takeshi, fills me with excitement for the future, both personally and for Microsoft. Despite my departure, I maintain a strong belief in the company’s mission, the exceptional talent within the team, and our crucial role during this pivotal period. I will continue in my position until the end of the year, with the company currently strategizing next steps – expect updates in the coming weeks. I anticipate a multitude of inquiries and am eager to address them during our upcoming AMA session later today.
Reflecting on Personal Passions and The Dark Tower Series
Reminiscing on a social media trend where individuals shared topics they could discuss for 30 minutes unprepared, I reflect on my diverse interests such as the US Marines, evolving influence dynamics, sourdough starter, and the Oregon Ducks. However, my ultimate passion lies in delving into the intricacies of Stephen King’s Dark Tower series, particularly starting with “The Gunslinger.” The series tracks Roland Deschain, the last gunslinger, as he pursues the enigmatic man in black across various dimensions and timelines in a bid to save the world. Central to the narrative is Roland’s struggle to preserve his essence and purpose in a world transitioning inexorably. The recurring theme underscores the inevitability of change and the choice between adaptation and stagnation. An intriguing concept introduced in the series is ‘ka-tet,’ symbolizing a group of individuals united by fate and a shared destiny – a collective driven by common objectives, mutual sacrifice, profound emotional connections, and decisive actions executed with almost supernatural agility.
The evolution of Roland from a solitary gunslinger in the initial book to a cohesive team in subsequent installments captivates me. While Roland’s individual prowess was formidable, it was within the ka-tet framework that he achieved ultimate success.
Embracing the Ka-Tet Spirit with Gratitude
In this journey, you, my dear friends, have been my ka-tet. Together, we have achieved remarkable feats, and my appreciation knows no bounds.
As we navigate the upcoming months, finalizing decisions and delivering exceptional work for the company, rest assured that I will remain close by even after my departure. Drawing from the Dark Tower farewell, “long days and pleasant nights,” I look forward to our continued collaboration until December. 😊
