AI Disruption: Amazon Cuts 14,000 Corporate Jobs
Amazon to Cut 14,000 Corporate Jobs
Amazon has announced plans to eliminate approximately 14,000 corporate positions, a move that comes as part of the company’s efforts to reduce costs. This number is smaller than the previously rumored 30,000 job cuts.
The news was delivered to employees by Beth Galetti, a senior executive at Amazon, in a message on Tuesday. Galetti emphasized that these reductions are aimed at streamlining operations, reducing bureaucracy, and reallocating resources to focus on the company’s key priorities and customer needs.
While specifics about the affected roles and locations were not provided by Galetti, employees will have a 90-day period to seek internal job opportunities.
Galetti referred to a previous message from CEO Andy Jassy highlighting the importance of artificial intelligence (AI) in driving efficiency gains and shaping the company’s future direction.
Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel clarified that the majority of job reductions are not directly related to AI technology.
Amazon’s ongoing efforts to streamline its operations and enhance efficiency have already shown positive results, leading to the recent job cuts. The company plans to continue hiring in key areas while seeking further efficiency gains.
Amazon’s strategy includes leveraging automation, robotics, and AI technologies to reduce labor costs and improve overall productivity, which may result in more job cuts in the future.
