Rare Non-Hybrid V12 LaFerrari Prototype Sells for $2.4 million at Auction
Unique 2012 Ferrari LaFerrari Prototype Sold at Auction for $2.4 Million
An exclusive 2012 Ferrari LaFerrari prototype recently fetched $2.4 million at an auction, a seemingly modest price for this model. The reason behind this price point is quite intriguing – this particular LaFerrari is not your typical production version but a prototype utilized during the hypercar’s developmental phase.
Referred to internally as “Proto F 150 – P2,” this prototype boasts a production-style LaFerrari body that is cleverly disguised in camouflage. However, beneath the exterior lies a modified version of the 458 Italia’s aluminium chassis, deviating from the usual carbon fiber monocoque. Surprisingly, the steering wheel used in this prototype is borrowed from the 458 model as well.
Situated behind the driver’s seat is a potent 6.3-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine. However, unlike the standard production model, this prototype lacks the HY-KERS hybrid system. Consequently, the power output is reduced from 950 hp to 789 hp.
It is important to note that the LaFerrari prototype was never officially homologated, making it ineligible for road registration.
