Copenhagen’s Seed Capital Announces €130 Million Fund V to Support Nordic Startups from Seed to Series A
Seed Capital, a seed-stage investor based in Copenhagen, has successfully closed its Fund V, securing €130 million for investments. The fund is set to support 15-17 companies, offering initial checks ranging from €3-6 million in sectors such as FinTech, cybersecurity, resilience, and AI-driven B2B solutions.
With the launch of its fifth fund, Seed Capital is expanding its reach beyond Denmark into the Nordics, particularly focusing on Sweden. This strategic move aims to leverage the fund’s 20-year track record and operational expertise in key sectors like FinTech, cybersecurity, and resilience to benefit entrepreneurs across the region.
Managing Partner of Seed Capital, Christian Brøndum, emphasized the importance of staying close to founders, highlighting the fund’s ability to provide on-the-ground support within an hour in the Nordics. This proximity to entrepreneurs is a key factor in Seed Capital’s successful investment strategy.
Established in December 2004, Seed Capital boasts a rich history as one of the most experienced seed funds in the Nordics. Its diverse portfolio includes notable companies like Flatpay, Trustpilot, VEO, Lunar, and Templafy, with total investments exceeding $2.6 billion to date.
In addition to financial support, Seed Capital offers valuable assistance to portfolio companies in various areas, including management support, business development, strategic planning, marketing, and operational guidance. This comprehensive approach aims to drive long-term success for the companies it invests in.
As part of its recent developments, Seed Capital has appointed Christian Brøndum as the new Managing Partner and welcomed Geeta Schmidt as the General Partner. This dynamic duo, alongside experienced GP Lars Andersen, forms a strong partner team with a wealth of industry knowledge and expertise.
Seed Capital’s hybrid model, combining former operators and investment professionals, enables the team to understand founders’ challenges firsthand while providing strategic guidance and investor perspectives. This approach is crucial in guiding companies towards sustainable growth and success.
Cybersecurity and resilience have emerged as key focus areas for Seed Capital’s fifth fund, with notable investments already made in companies like Fortiv, Moxso, Repodo, and Oplane. The fund’s strategic shift towards security and AI reflects the evolving landscape of technology and the need for secure, innovative solutions.
Geeta Schmidt highlighted the fund’s interest in investing in teams with deep expertise, valuable products, and a vision for the future. Companies like Oplane exemplify the qualities Seed Capital looks for in potential investments, aligning with the fund’s strategic direction in Sweden and the Nordics.
Looking ahead, Seed Capital is considering opening a Swedish office to further strengthen its support for founders and expand its presence in the region. This expansion plan underscores the fund’s commitment to fostering innovation and driving growth in the Nordic startup ecosystem.
