Snowflake, a provider of cloud-based data warehousing and AI tools for enterprises, announced on Wednesday its commitment to spend $6 billion on Amazon Web Services over the next five years. This partnership will leverage Amazon’s custom Graviton processors and other chips to enhance AI and agentic applications.

The collaboration between Snowflake and AWS dates back to Snowflake’s inception 11 years ago. The initial AWS spending commitment of $1.2 billion at the time of Snowflake’s IPO in 2020 has now grown to $6 billion, as reported by CNBC.

This agreement is part of Amazon’s strategy to expand its AI-related infrastructure offerings on AWS, including significant deals with companies like Anthropic and OpenAI. Amazon’s custom chips business has seen substantial growth, with CEO Andy Jassy stating that it generates over $20 billion annually and is experiencing triple-digit growth rates.

Notably, Snowflake is headquartered in Bozeman, Montana, with key offices in the Bay Area and Bellevue, Washington. The company recently reported strong fiscal first-quarter results, surpassing analyst expectations with revenue reaching $1.39 billion. This positive performance led to a 33% increase in Snowflake’s stock during extended trading.
