BMW recalls over 16,000 vehicles in Australia due to fire risk

BMW Recalls Over 16,000 Vehicles Due to Fire Risk

German automaker BMW is issuing a recall for more than 16,000 vehicles spanning nine different model lines. The reason behind this massive recall is a manufacturing defect that poses a potential fire hazard.

According to BMW, the issue lies with the starter motor solenoid switch, which can experience increased wear leading to an internal short circuit. This defect could prevent the driver from starting the engine and, in extreme cases, result in overheating that may cause a fire while the vehicle is in operation.

The company has advised affected vehicle owners to schedule an appointment with an authorized BMW dealership for a free fix. It is crucial to act promptly to avoid any potential risks to both occupants and property.

To prevent any mishaps, BMW recommends not leaving the vehicle unattended while the engine is running and avoiding the use of any Remote Engine Start function. They also caution that drivers may notice smoke or a burning smell if the starter motor overheats.

If vehicle owners have any questions or concerns regarding the recall, they can reach out to the BMW Australia Recall Hotline at 1800 243 675 for assistance.
