Mercedes AMG C63 to Retire V8 Engine, but Future Still Promising
Mercedes Rules Out V8 Engine for AMG C63, Extends Production for Larger Models
Mercedes-Benz has officially confirmed that there are no plans to reintroduce a V8 engine to the current-generation AMG C63. This decision comes as the company extends V8 production for larger models until 2035.
Klaus Rehkugler, the Head of Product Management and Global Training at Mercedes-Benz, stated that despite the popularity of the four-door C63 in various markets such as North America, Australia, Japan, China, and Korea, the V8 model will not be making a comeback.
Although the V8 engine will not be featured in the C63, Mercedes is not completely moving away from eight-cylinder engines. Rehkugler mentioned that due to high demand in North America and the Middle East, V8 production will continue until at least 2035 for larger models such as the S-Class, G-Class, GLE, and CLE 63.

Rehkugler further explained, “The popularity of the V8 engine in North America and the Middle East is undeniable. Despite stringent CO2 regulations in Europe, there is still a strong global demand to sustain V8 production for at least another decade.”
According to Car Expert, Mercedes is adapting to regional demands while considering the global landscape to ensure that V8 engines remain a prominent feature in their larger models for years to come.
