The Latest on Apple’s Foldable iPhone

Recent reports by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggest that Apple’s highly anticipated foldable iPhone will feature an innovative iPad-style interface, allowing users to seamlessly view apps side-by-side. The outer display is rumored to be similar in size to a small iPhone, while the inner display will offer a wider aspect ratio, resembling Google’s first-generation Pixel Fold.

While the updated layout is expected to enhance multitasking capabilities, Gurman notes that the foldable iPhone will not support existing iPad apps. However, Apple is said to be revamping its core apps to include a sidebar on the left side of the screen, maximizing the larger screen real estate. Developers will also have the opportunity to optimize their iPhone apps for a more iPad-like experience.

In a departure from Face ID, Apple is reportedly considering integrating Touch ID into the device’s side button due to the thinness of the front panel. This design change will result in a small-hole punch camera replacing the traditional pill-shaped housing for the front-facing camera and Face ID. Gurman’s previous insights suggest that the foldable iPhone may resemble two iPhone Airs fused together.

Despite the absence of a notch, the foldable iPhone is expected to retain Apple’s Dynamic Island feature, allowing users to stay updated on real-time events. The device is also rumored to sport two rear cameras and come with a price tag of approximately $2,000.
