Why Tokyo is the most important tech destination of 2026

Tech conferences often revolve around broad themes that can be interpreted in various ways. However, SusHi Tech Tokyo 2026 is taking a unique approach by focusing on four specific technology domains with live demonstrations, dedicated exhibit floors, and sessions led by industry experts.

As an official media partner, TechCrunch is teaming up with SusHi Tech Tokyo 2026. Their Startup Battlefield team will select a standout semifinalist from the SusHi Tech Challenge to advance to the prestigious TechCrunch Disrupt Startup Battlefield 200.

AI — beyond the hype, into the infrastructure

Industry leaders like Howard Wright from Nvidia, Rob Chu from AWS, and Eric Benhamou from Benhamou Global Ventures will delve into the practical applications of AI and the associated risks. The event will also feature AI-themed university startups and the AI Film Festival Japan, showcasing how artificial intelligence is influencing culture.

Robotics — physical AI has arrived

SusHi Tech Tokyo will showcase interactive robots from companies like Nissan, Isuzu, and Applied Intuition. Experts will discuss how software-defined vehicles are reshaping transportation, emphasizing that physical AI is already a reality.

Resilience — the cities that survive what’s coming

Cyber defense and climate resilience will take center stage at SusHi Tech Tokyo. Industry leaders like Eva Chen from Trend Micro and Noboru Nakatani from NEC will address these critical topics. The event will also feature a VR disaster simulator and tours of Tokyo’s flood-control infrastructure.

Entertainment — Japan’s cultural engine meets AI

Leaders from prominent animation studios will discuss Tokyo’s potential to become a hub for animation. Startups will showcase how they are using AI to translate manga, create music from text, and bring Japanese IP to life through anime.
