Innovating the Future: LetinAR’s AI Glasses Revolution
The Future of Smart Glasses: A Look into the Revolutionary Technology
Picture yourself speeding down the road on a motorcycle at 160 kilometers per hour when suddenly, an arrow appears, floating in front of you, guiding you on where to turn. No phone, no dashboard, just your helmet and a lens the size of a thumbnail.
This may sound like a scene from a sci-fi movie, but it’s a reality that is set to hit European roads as early as this year. It’s just a glimpse of the incredible advancements in smart glasses technology.
In recent years, major tech companies have been making significant strides in the development of smart glasses. Meta has already introduced AI-enabled Ray-Ban glasses, Google is working on Android XR, and Apple is rumored to enter the market soon. Samsung is also gearing up to unveil its first AI-capable smart glasses, co-designed with Gentle Monster, at an upcoming event in London. Chinese tech giants like Huawei, Alibaba, and Xiaomi are not far behind in this race.
The growing interest in smart glasses is evident in the numbers, with global AI glasses shipments reaching 8.7 million units in 2025, a staggering 300% increase from the previous year. Analysts project that this figure will surpass 15 million units this year, according to Omdia.
Companies like LetinAR, a South Korean startup, are at the forefront of developing the optical technology that will make smart glasses a practical and wearable reality. Recently, LetinAR secured $18.5 million in funding from Korea Development Bank and Lotte Ventures, ahead of its planned IPO in 2027.
Founded in 2016 by CEO Jaehyeok Kim and CTO Jeonghun Ha, LetinAR aims to revolutionize the smart glasses industry with its innovative optical modules. These modules, particularly the tiny lens component, play a crucial role in projecting images directly into the user’s field of vision. The challenge lies in making these components light, thin, and power-efficient while maintaining image clarity. LetinAR is dedicated to overcoming this engineering hurdle.
The Key to Wearable Smart Glasses
LetinAR’s optical modules, known as PinTILT, are designed to optimize the light projection into the user’s eye, ensuring a brighter and clearer image. Unlike traditional smart lens technologies that scatter light across the lens, PinTILT focuses on directing light precisely where it needs to go. This approach results in a thinner, lighter lens that consumes less power, addressing the industry’s longstanding challenge.
Competing with peers like WaveOptics, DigiLens, and Lumus, LetinAR has already made strides in the market. Its optical modules are in use by prominent customers like NTT QONOQ Devices and Dynabook, providing valuable manufacturing experience at scale. The company is also in talks with major tech firms for the development of next-generation AI glasses.
One of LetinAR’s notable customers is Aegis Rider, a Swiss deeptech company working on an AI-powered AR helmet for motorcycle riders. This innovative helmet displays navigation, speed, and safety alerts directly in the rider’s field of vision, enhancing safety and convenience on the road.
With the latest funding round bringing the total raised to $41.7 million, LetinAR is gearing up for the mass production phase of the AI glasses market. CEO Jaehyeok Kim emphasizes that hardware devices like AI glasses are the next frontier that will integrate artificial intelligence into everyday life.
