iOS 27 adds extra-large widgets for your extra-large needs

Introducing iOS 27’s New Extra-Large Widgets

iOS 27 is set to revolutionize the user experience with the introduction of new extra-large widgets for the Today View and Home Screen. Here’s what you need to know.

Apple unveiled iOS 27 today, showcasing a plethora of new features, including the highly anticipated Siri AI, enhanced search functionalities, and new Apple Intelligence capabilities seamlessly integrated into the system.

While the spotlight is on the major additions in iOS 27, there are also smaller yet significant changes to explore, such as independent volume controls for alarms, timers, alerts, and system sounds.

One notable addition is the introduction of the extra-large widget size, complementing the existing small, medium, and large widget options available on the Home Screen and Today View.

Small widgets occupy a 2×2 panel, medium widgets span 4×2, and large widgets expand to 4×4. With the new extra-large widget size in iOS 27, apps have a 4×6 canvas to showcase information more prominently for users.

Similar to resizing other widget sizes, users can adjust the extra-large widget by dragging the bottom-right handle, either reducing it to a smaller format or expanding it to the new extra-large layout.

Currently, only a few of Apple’s pre-installed widgets support the new extra-large size, but expect more developers to update their apps for full compatibility before the official release of iOS 27 this fall.
