Is The BMW Z4 Next to Meet Its End in 2026?
The Final Edition of the BMW Z4: A Fond Farewell to a Beloved Sports Car
A recent press release from Toyota has announced the imminent end of the road for the Supra, with the final A90-generation model set to be produced in March next year. This news has sparked speculation about when the BMW Z4, a close cousin of the Supra and built in the same facility in Graz, Austria by Magna Steyr, will reach the end of its production line.
While the Supra is bidding farewell with a Final Edition, the Z4 is expected to have a longer run, potentially even culminating in a special version before its eventual discontinuation. Reports suggest that the last batch of G29 Z4s will be heading to the United States, with production scheduled to conclude in May, following closely behind the Supra’s final build.
Details about the Z4 Final Edition remain scarce, but insiders hint at an exclusive version based on the M40i variant. Speculations suggest that the final Z4s will all be M40i models, with a company source from the Bimmer Post forums providing reliable information on this matter.
It is anticipated that the final Z4 will be a US-exclusive release, potentially featuring unique finishes and trims to mark the end of an era. The likelihood of a next-generation Z model is slim, contrasting Toyota’s commitment to reviving the Supra brand without Bavarian influence.
Despite the divergence in the sports car realm, BMW and Toyota continue their collaboration on a shared fuel cell program. The forthcoming iX5 60H xDrive, set to be BMW’s first hydrogen-powered production car by 2028, will utilize technology developed in tandem with Toyota for the next-generation X5 (G65) debuting in 2026.
BMW’s strategic plan includes the introduction of over 40 new or updated models featuring Neue Klasse technology and design by 2027. While the Z series is not part of this lineup due to prioritization of high-volume products, enthusiasts remain hopeful for the return of the Zukunft (German for “future”).
An enthusiast-focused vehicle has proven to attract customers to showrooms, even if they ultimately opt for an SUV. The legacy of the BMW Z4 will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on sports car enthusiasts worldwide.
