Volvo XC60 and XC90: New Plug-in Hybrid Drivetrains and Stylish Upgrades

Volvo has introduced exciting updates to its popular SUV models, the Volvo XC60 and XC90. Both vehicles now feature new long-range plug-in hybrid drivetrains with significantly larger batteries, almost comparable to those found in entry-level electric vehicles. The XC60 has also received a refreshed look, marking its second facelift in as many years.

The latest updates to the XC60 include a redesigned front end with a new bonnet, fenders, a flatter grille, and a revamped bumper. The iconic Thor’s Hammer signature driving light design has been reimagined with a new two-part approach, adding a touch of modernity to the SUV’s appearance.

At the rear, the XC60 now sports a new tailgate with sharper lines and restyled tail-lights featuring a flatter design. The redesigned elements extend deeper into the tailgate, enhancing the SUV’s visual appeal. Additionally, new alloy wheel designs add a touch of sophistication to the overall look.

Interior updates on the XC60 are focused on new trim and material options. The dashboard now houses an 11.2-inch touchscreen that runs on the Android-based Volvo Car UX operating system, complete with the Gemini AI assistant for enhanced user experience.

In terms of safety, Volvo has upgraded the XC60 with its latest suite of radars, cameras, and sensors. Notable features include automatic emergency steering assist, autonomous emergency braking, cyclist detection when opening doors, a 360-degree camera system with 3D view, and lane change assist, ensuring maximum safety for drivers and passengers.

One of the most significant upgrades lies beneath the surface, with the plug-in hybrid models now equipped with new 41kWh batteries, replacing the previous 19kWh units. The T6 variant boasts an impressive electric driving range of up to 200km on the WLTP standard, while the more powerful T8 model can achieve 189km on a single charge—a substantial improvement from the existing T8’s 89km range.

In the case of the XC90, there are no visual updates to report. However, the T8 variant has been upgraded to the same plug-in drivetrain and battery combination as the XC60 T8. Despite its larger size and weight, the XC90 T8 offers an impressive EV driving range of 164km.
