Google has recently launched the Android 16 QPR2 update for Pixel users, bringing a host of new features alongside the December Pixel Drop.
Android 16 QPR2 offers more than just the latest security patch for December 2025. Google Pixel 6 users and newer devices will receive a range of additional tools and enhancements.
To check for the update on your Pixel phone, navigate to Settings > System > Software updates and select System update.
Here are seven standout features from the new Android 16 update, amidst a wealth of other additions to the operating system.
Pin Tabs in Chrome
One of the most exciting additions is the ability to pin tabs in the Chrome browser. This simple yet effective feature allows users to keep important tabs at the top for easy access, solving the issue of losing tabs frequently.
AI Notification Summaries
Google now provides AI-powered summaries for incoming notifications, enabling users to quickly grasp the content without opening each notification. While similar features exist on iOS, Google’s implementation is expected to offer superior performance.
Urgent Call Alerts
Introducing Call Reason (currently in beta), which allows users to mark a call to a saved contact as “urgent.” This feature notifies the recipient about the call’s urgency, even if they miss the initial call. The urgency tag remains in the call history, prompting a prompt response.

AI Scam Detection
The Circle to Search feature can now determine if an incoming message is a scam, providing an AI overview of its legitimacy based on internet sources. This proactive approach offers users insights and next steps to handle potential scams effectively.
Expressive Captions in Live Videos
Expressive Captions can now detect emotions in live videos and add relevant emotion tags. While this feature may not appeal to everyone, it enhances the video viewing experience by providing context to the content.
New Split Screen Options
The December update for Android 16 introduces a new split-screen feature that allows users to run two apps in a 90:10 split ratio, offering a more focused user experience. This feature enhances multitasking capabilities on Android devices.
Emoji Mash-ups
Gboard now supports emoji mash-ups, combining two emojis to create unique variations. This feature adds a fun element to messaging and communication, making conversations more engaging and expressive.
