Top Australian Vehicles of 2025: The Most Memorable Rides Down Under
In 2025, a total of 380,350 cars, SUVs, and light commercial vehicles were recalled in Australia due to various mechanical and software issues. Customers were required to visit service departments to address these faults.
Throughout the year, 136 product safety recall notices were issued nationwide, ranging from minor compliance label errors in the Ford Mustang Mach-E to more serious concerns like potential toxic gas leaks in Ford’s van lineup.
According to the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport, and the Arts, Ford led the pack in recall notices, issuing 26 in total and recalling 110,362 vehicles.
Notable trends in the recalls included 25 instances posing the risk of vehicle fires and 16 related to airbags. While some recalls affected only a few vehicles, others, like Toyota’s recall of 69,586 vehicles for an instrument cluster fault, were on a larger scale.
It’s important to note that not all issues lead to recall notices, as some may be addressed through service campaigns. Companies may also proactively issue recalls before safety concerns arise.
Tesla, for example, resolved two recalls with over-the-air software updates, highlighting alternative solutions to dealership visits.
Ford topped the list with the highest number of recalls issued at 26, surpassing Mercedes-Benz with 11 notices. Ram followed closely with nine recalls, primarily related to airbag issues.
Other brands with multiple recalls included Hyundai, Kia, Lexus, Mazda, Peugeot, Volkswagen, Chevrolet, Genesis, Land Rover, Nissan, and Toyota.
Several brands had one recall each, such as Aston Martin, Bentley, Cadillac, Chery, Fiat, Honda, JAC, Jaguar, KGM, McLaren, MG, Mini, Mitsubishi, Smart, and Subaru.
In summary, the automotive industry in 2025 saw a significant number of recalls, emphasizing the importance of addressing safety and quality concerns promptly.
