Amazon Expands Locker Pickup Points on College Campuses

Amazon is ramping up its services for the back-to-school season by extending its network of Locker package pickup sites to over 750 locations spanning 500 U.S. colleges and universities.

This expansion is part of Amazon’s vast network of more than 25,000 delivery hubs nationwide and aims to seamlessly integrate into students’ daily routines without any additional expenses.

Students now have the option to choose a designated Locker on campus during checkout, monitor their order through the Amazon app, and retrieve packages within a three-day window using a barcode or code. Items left unclaimed will be automatically returned and refunded.

The growth of this campus program marks a significant milestone since its inception as a pilot project in Seattle-area convenience stores back in October 2011, as initially reported by GeekWire.

Amazon’s strategic placement of secure Lockers on college campuses, accessible 24/7, is aimed at streamlining the package pickup process for busy students managing classes and extracurricular activities.

Viraj Chatterjee, Vice President of Amazon Transportation, emphasized, “College students are always on the go, and receiving a package should be convenient and fit seamlessly into their day-to-day schedule.”

In addition to its physical campus expansion, Amazon has rolled out a subscription program targeting young consumers. Students in higher education and young adults aged 18 to 24 are eligible to sign up for “Prime for Young Adults” at a discounted rate of 50% ($7.49 per month or $69 annually). This subscription includes full Prime shipping and streaming benefits, a six-month trial period, and 5% cash-back incentives.
