BMW AT 2026 NATION OF WINES 1

BMW recently showcased the M2 CS in Mexico’s Nation of Wines, despite the fact that alcohol and driving should never be mixed. The decision was motivated by the fact that the hardcore sports coupe is locally manufactured, making it a prime opportunity for the marketing team to highlight the G87 in Competition Sport form.

Although the M2 CS was not utilized for transportation purposes during the event, its presence as a static display served as a reminder that BMW produces the car at the San Luis Potosí plant. This marked the second consecutive year that the luxury automaker was named the official vehicle partner of the event. While the M2 CS may not be the most comfortable option for rear-seat passengers, larger vehicles like the X3 M50, M5, and 750e were used to transport guests.

In addition to the M2 CS, other BMW models were also showcased at the event, with the iX xDrive45 and X7 M60 being highlighted as some of the brand’s “most representative models.” However, it was noted that the iX will not see a second generation, with the iX5 set to indirectly replace it later in the year. Production of the iX is expected to continue until mid-2028.

Looking ahead, BMW has exciting plans for the X7, as a second-generation model is scheduled for release next year, including an all-electric iX7 variant. This new electric SUV will feature next-generation batteries, motors, and an 800-volt electrical architecture, offering improved technical specifications.

The Nation of Wines 2026 event also provided BMW with a platform to promote its “Power of Choice” ethos, showcasing the brand’s diverse range of drivetrain offerings, including gasoline, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric models. It was noted that diesel-powered cars were not on display, as BMW Mexico does not sell any, although diesel engines will remain available in other markets.

Looking to the future, BMW is set to introduce the M2 Track Package and potentially an M2 xDrive in 2026. While the possibility of an M2 CSL has not been ruled out, the extreme G87 model is not expected to arrive until 2027 or 2028. The Mexican-built M2 is anticipated to remain in production until mid-2029.
