General Motors Enhances Four Million Cars with Gemini Technology

General Motors has announced plans to introduce Google’s Gemini AI assistant into approximately four million vehicles across the United States. The upgrade will be available for model year 2022 and newer Cadillac, Chevrolet, Buick, and GMC vehicles with Google built-in. The AI enhancement will be delivered through over-the-air software updates for GM’s infotainment system over a period of several months.

According to GM, this update represents one of the largest deployments of Gemini in the automotive industry. Customers can expect an upgrade from the current Google Assistant to a more intelligent and intuitive AI assistant that will continue to evolve and improve over time.

The Gemini AI assistant offers a wide range of capabilities, including sending messages, providing navigation assistance, suggesting music, and more. The upgrade to Gemini aims to deliver a more conversational experience, enabling users to interact naturally by asking questions or making requests without the need to memorize specific commands. Initially available in US English, GM plans to expand Gemini to additional markets and support more languages in the future.

GM has reached a significant milestone by announcing that customers in nearly 750,000 Super Cruise-enabled vehicles have collectively driven one billion hands-free miles. While the Super Cruise advanced driver-assist system is not fully autonomous, it allows drivers to safely remove their hands from the steering wheel on compatible roads in the US and Canada. This achievement highlights GM’s competitive edge in the industry, potentially challenging rivals like Tesla.
