Unveiling the Truth: The Privacy Concerns Surrounding the Apple Watch Series 12

The Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 introduce a new set of Audio Intelligence features that aim to help users keep track of their conversations throughout the day. These features include Siri Recap, which summarizes conversations, and Live Rewind, which provides a written transcript of the last 15 seconds of audio heard by the watch. Live Rewind can be activated by double-clicking the Digital Crown and is always listening, but data is securely stored and overwritten continuously. The S11 chip on the Apple Watch ensures privacy by processing audio data separately and securely transferring it to the iPhone for transcription. Encrypted audio is decrypted inside the iPhone’s Secure Exclave, transcribed to text, and condensed to remove non-essential content. Raw audio is deleted, and a safety model screens for harmful terms before the condensed text is encrypted and sent to Private Cloud Compute along with contextual information.

Private Cloud Compute ensures data privacy, and summaries are sent back to the iPhone and Apple Watch for secure storage. Siri Recaps are synced across devices with end-to-end encryption and are automatically deleted after seven days unless saved. Sensitive information is excluded from summaries, and they do not produce verbatim transcripts or identify speakers.

Audio Intelligence, which includes features like Live Rewind and Siri Recap, requires specific Apple Watch and iPhone models. These features will be available in beta in late 2026, with a limited rollout initially in English-speaking regions. Certain features may have daily usage limits, and users under 13 or on a Child Account will need parental authorization.
