Exploring the 2027 BMW X5 Without the Optional Front Passenger Screen

  • Discover the interior of the 2027 BMW X5 without the optional front passenger screen.
  • Experience a less cluttered dashboard design without the 14.6-inch display.
  • The optional passenger screen is priced at €1,450 in Germany.

Many anticipated the inclusion of a front-passenger screen in the fifth-generation X5, following its debut in the facelifted 7 Series. BMW had hinted at customer demand for such a feature, and now it’s available. However, what if you prefer a simpler dashboard?

Fortunately, BMW offers the front passenger screen as an optional extra for the 2027 X5, unlike the mandatory inclusion in the 2027 7 Series. Priced at €1,450 in Germany, this feature allows for a cleaner dashboard aesthetic without the dual-screen setup.

Similar to the 7 Series, the X5 combines a 17.9-inch infotainment screen with a 14.6-inch screen dedicated to the front passenger. While the choice to include the extra screen is limited to the X5 for now, rumors suggest it may extend to the upcoming 5 Series facelift and the second-generation X7 (G67) in 2027.

Limitations of the BMW Passenger Screen Across Models

The passenger screen feature is expected to remain exclusive to BMW’s larger vehicles, such as the 7 Series and the X5. Smaller models like the 3 Series and X3 may not receive this additional display. However, future models like the next-generation X6 (G66) could incorporate the second dashboard screen when it debuts in 2028.

While the passenger screen may deviate from BMW’s minimalistic Neue Klasse philosophy, customer demand for more screens is evident. Stephan Durach, Senior Vice President UI/UX Development, noted a significant desire for passenger screens in larger vehicles.

Although the X5 features a front passenger screen, it does not include the rear 31.3-inch Theatre Screen found in the facelifted 7 Series. This high-resolution, cinema-like display remains exclusive to select markets where the long-wheelbase 5 Series is available, offering a full touchscreen experience for rear passengers.
