Breaking Up with the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8: A Tech Advisor’s Final Verdict

The latest iteration of the Galaxy Z Flip, the Z Flip 8, seems to have missed the mark with minimal upgrades and a significant price increase. This lackluster release is further highlighted by the absence of a more affordable ‘FE’ model this year. Unless you were a fan of previous versions, there’s little reason to invest in the new Z Flip.

Speculations suggest that this could be the final Galaxy Z Flip, and if that turns out to be true, it wouldn’t come as a surprise. Without any indication that Samsung intends to address the key issues of the Z Flip, it might be time to consider discontinuing the product altogether.

Where are the upgrades?

In a previous discussion, I outlined five essential upgrades that the Z Flip 8 needed to avoid potential cancellation. Unfortunately, Samsung has failed to implement any of these upgrades.

The only minor improvement seems to be the slight relaxation of restrictions on the cover screen, offering a slightly more user-friendly interface and optimized apps. However, accessing most third-party apps still requires navigating through cumbersome processes that some users may not be aware of.

Furthermore, the camera system remains deficient without a telephoto lens, and there have been no enhancements in other areas. The device also lacks proper dust protection with only an IP48 rating, presenting potential challenges for users in environments like the beach.

One of the most disappointing aspects of the Z Flip 8 is the lack of battery upgrades. Despite the shift to silicon-carbon (Si-C) technology, the battery capacity remains stagnant at 4300mAh, which may raise concerns about its ability to sustain heavy usage throughout the day.
