Naughty Dog Still Working on Projects Based on The Last of Us, Confirms Neil Druckmann

Published on: September 15, 2021

Neil Druckmann, the studio head at Naughty Dog, has recently revealed that the team is actively involved in developing new projects related to The Last of Us franchise. In an exclusive interview with The Washington Post, Druckmann expressed his excitement about the upcoming endeavors. He mentioned, “We’re not done with The Last Of Us. There’s a couple projects in the works that, when the time is right, I’m very excited to talk about.”

Despite the success of the TV show adaptation of The Last of Us, Druckmann hinted that the new projects might not include a movie adaptation. The franchise has already expanded into graphic novels, books, and soundtracks, leaving fans curious about what’s next.

Druckmann’s statements about the possibility of a third installment in The Last of Us game series have been met with mixed reactions. While he has previously teased the existence of a potential storyline for a new game, he has also denied the likelihood of it happening. The uncertainties surrounding The Last of Us Part 3 continue to intrigue fans.

In a surprising turn of events, it was announced last year that Neil Druckmann would be stepping away from his creative involvement in The Last of Us TV show to focus on his work at Naughty Dog and on the development of their next game, “Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.” Halley Gross, co-writer of The Last of Us Part 2, is also transitioning away from the writer’s room.

Regarding the direction of the TV show’s third season, Druckmann clarified that Naughty Dog has no creative input, stating, “I wasn’t involved in shaping this season’s creative direction, and Naughty Dog did not have a creative role in the direction of this season.”

In a heartfelt social media post, Druckmann expressed gratitude for his experience co-creating the show and working alongside Craig Mazin. He emphasized his dedication to Naughty Dog’s future projects and his role as Studio Head and Head of Creative.
