Amazon recently announced a reduction of 121 jobs in Washington state, affecting various teams in Bellevue, Seattle, and Sumner.

The largest number of layoffs occurred at the SEA106 building in Bellevue, where 49 employees were let go, including software development engineers, applied scientists, and senior managers.

In Seattle, positions across multiple downtown offices were impacted, such as human resources directors, product managers, and technical writers.

Additionally, 32 positions were cut at the BFI1 fulfillment center in Sumner, affecting roles like warehouse associates, service technicians, and safety specialists.

According to Amazon spokesperson Brad Glasser, these decisions were made as part of routine reviews to align teams with their objectives and goals.

The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filed with the state indicated that affected employees were notified between July 1 and July 29, with terminations effective between Oct. 1 and Oct. 27.

Amazon provided 90 days’ notice, allowing affected employees to apply for open internal positions before their separations become final.

The tech giant employs around 50,000 corporate and tech workers in the Puget Sound region, with a significant presence in both Seattle and Bellevue.

Earlier this year, Amazon also made similar cuts in Washington, as part of an ongoing effort to streamline operations and enhance efficiency within the company.

This move is reflective of a broader trend in the tech industry, with layoffs affecting employees at various companies in Washington state.
