The Google Pixel 11 Pro: A Closer Look at HiLight Feature

When the Google Pixel 11 Pro was unveiled, many were excited about the new HiLight feature. However, as users got their hands on the device, it became clear that HiLight was not as groundbreaking as initially hoped. Instead of being a prominent feature, it was hidden within the camera flash, replacing the temperature sensor.

HiLight is currently only available on the Pro models, and its functionality is quite limited. It mainly glows blue when interacting with Gemini and changes colors when receiving calls from favorite contacts.

According to Google, more features for HiLight, such as contact notifications, are expected to be added later in the year. However, third-party access to this feature remains uncertain.

It’s disappointing to see the potential of HiLight compared to what other companies like Nothing and Xiaomi have done with screen and light innovations on smartphones.

One can’t help but imagine how much more visually appealing HiLight could have been if it were a ring light around the camera module, as hinted at in Google’s teasers for the Pixel 11 phones.

The missed opportunity of having a dynamic ring light around the camera module not only for aesthetics but also for enhancing functionality is evident. It could have added a new dimension to the user experience.
