One instance that exemplifies this issue is the Google app, especially when used alongside the Google Chrome browser. The app constantly reloads data, such as updating the Google Discover feed, leading to a continuous drain on the device’s battery.

To determine which apps are consuming the most battery power on your device, you can easily check by navigating to Settings > Battery and selecting Battery usage by app. This will provide you with a detailed breakdown of the apps that are draining the battery, the duration for which they have been doing so, and the amount of mAh that have been depleted.

Background apps can cause significant battery drain

The Google app may often be listed as one of the top battery-draining apps due to its continuous background operation. Other common culprits to watch out for include Google Maps, social media apps, and YouTube.

Effective Ways to Reduce Battery Usage

To prevent the Google app from running incessantly in the background and depleting your battery, you can restrict its permissions. Within the Google app, navigate to Settings –> Additional settings to disable the updating of the Discover feed.

In the device’s system settings, locate the Google app under Apps > App Management (the path may vary depending on the manufacturer) and, under Manage permissions, choose the option ‘Stop app activity when not in use’.

If the option is grayed out, return to Settings > Battery > Battery usage by app. Locate the Google app and enable Limit background usage to ensure that the app only runs in the background to a limited extent.
