Tower of Fantasy is quitting the gacha life as it, sort of, transitions into a regular MMO

Tower of Fantasy Update: Gacha Elements Removed and New Features Added

Do you recall Tower of Fantasy? This game, reminiscent of Genshin Impact, featured gacha mechanics with a unique twist – it incorporated MMO elements. The game’s shared open world allowed players to interact with each other, but its monetization strategy leaned heavily towards gacha mechanics. However, a significant change is set to take place on November 25th as developer Hotta Studio is eliminating all gacha elements from Tower of Fantasy.

This transformation will primarily affect the Warp server, where players will no longer need to rely on gacha pulls to acquire weapons and matrices (equipment pieces). Instead, these items can be obtained for free through participation in various in-game events and daily activities. The update will also introduce a traditional trade system and a new in-game currency known as dark crystals, enabling players to purchase resources and engage in trading activities.

In addition to these changes, a new season system will be implemented in the game. These seasons will offer different progression styles and gameplay modes, with rewards such as outfits and other seasonal incentives. It remains to be seen whether these features will be accessible through free gameplay or if they will involve additional costs. Furthermore, the update will introduce new social features, including the Crew Base – a communal space where players can interact and socialize with each other.

Despite the lack of detailed information, this update marks a significant shift in Tower of Fantasy’s gameplay experience, especially considering the mixed reception the game has received thus far. This move aligns with a growing trend in the gaming industry, where titles like Duet Night Abyss and Ananta are opting to move away from traditional gacha mechanics. It raises the question of whether more games will follow suit in the future, moving towards a more player-friendly and engaging gameplay model.
