Ring has recently launched the Peephole Cam 2K, a new version of its smart doorbell camera that offers easy installation as a replacement for a door’s peephole without the need for drilling or running wires. This innovative device is an upgrade from the brand’s previous Door View Cam, featuring a sleeker design, enhanced 2K video recording capabilities, improved tracking features, and a more affordable price point. Customers can now pre-order the Peephole Cam 2K for $99.99, with shipping set to commence later this month.

Similar to its predecessors, the Peephole Cam 2K consists of two components that seamlessly connect through the door’s peephole. The exterior unit comprises a camera, doorbell, speaker, and microphone, while the interior component houses additional electronics, including a removable battery that can last approximately 120 days between charges. However, unlike some other models, this device does not feature an internal preview screen. Therefore, users will need to use their smartphones or compatible smart displays to view and communicate with visitors at the door.

Despite this minor inconvenience, the Peephole Cam 2K offers the convenience of remotely monitoring and interacting with individuals at the door from anywhere, even when away from home. Additionally, users can receive real-time motion alerts with concise descriptions of the camera’s observations. The device allows for customization of motion detection settings, enabling users to focus alerts on specific areas within its wide-angle 140-degree field-of-view and avoid unnecessary notifications triggered by passing vehicles. However, certain advanced features such as reviewing recorded events for up to 180 days and receiving alerts for detected packages require an additional Ring Protect plan subscription.
