Samsung, who've been accused of worsening the RAM crisis via price fixing, reckon components will only get more expensive in 2027

Samsung Forecasts Prolonged Memory Crisis

Samsung has recently announced that the ongoing memory crisis shows no signs of improvement in the near future. The company predicts that the shortage of RAM will worsen through 2027 and may not ease until at least 2028.

In a Q2 earnings call, Samsung executives disclosed that AI labs have been providing their long-term demand forecasts directly to RAM manufacturers. This collaboration aims to secure future supply amid the ongoing crisis.

While the memory shortage continues to impact Samsung’s sales of smartphones and TVs, the company benefits from high demand for RAM from AI firms. This demand allows Samsung to negotiate long-term contracts with AI companies, ensuring a steady revenue stream and safeguarding against sudden fluctuations in market demand.

Despite the opportunity to capitalize on the growing demand for RAM in AI data centers, Samsung, along with competitors SK Hynix and Micron, have not shifted focus towards supplying consumer-grade RAM. This lack of action has led to accusations of price fixing and supply manipulation in the industry.

It is important to note that Samsung’s predictions regarding the future of the RAM crisis were made in an earnings call, where profitability for shareholders is a primary concern. However, the outlook for resolving the memory shortage remains uncertain.
