Apple AirTag 2: Three Compelling Reasons to Upgrade Your Tracker
Apple has officially announced the arrival of the new AirTag tracker, confirming earlier rumors. The latest iteration, referred to as the ‘new AirTag’ by Apple, boasts several enhancements compared to its predecessor.
The new AirTag offers three compelling reasons to upgrade from the original version released in 2021, particularly beneficial for frequent travelers.
Enhanced Precision and Range
The upgraded AirTag facilitates easier tracking of your belongings, be it keys, bags, or other items. This improvement is attributed to the inclusion of the Ultra Wideband chip present in devices like the iPhone 17 series and Apple Watch Ultra 3, along with an enhanced Bluetooth chip. Apple claims that the new AirTag allows you to locate items from a distance that is 50% farther than before.
Precision Finding guides aid in pinpointing the item through a combination of haptic, visual, and audio cues. Additionally, Precision Finding is now accessible through the Find My app on the Apple Watch Series 9 or later and Ultra 2 or later.
Double the Volume
Regarding audio capabilities, the AirTag 2 is twice as loud as its predecessor, making it easier to audibly locate the device. With a new distinctive chime, Apple states that the sound can be heard from a distance twice as far as before.
Enhanced Security
The new AirTag tracker from Apple incorporates a range of industry-leading safeguards against unwanted tracking, including cross-platform alerts and dynamic Bluetooth identifiers that change regularly. The device is engineered with privacy in mind from the ground up, ensuring the protection of location data.
Apple has implemented stringent security measures to safeguard against potential hacking attempts and ensure the system remains secure.
Pricing of AirTag 2
The latest AirTag (2026) is now available at the same price point as its predecessor. A single AirTag is priced at £29/$29, while a four-pack costs £99/$99, both offering complimentary personalized engraving.
