Latest Rivian Software Update Adds Apple Watch App and Enhanced Drive Modes

Rivian has introduced an exciting new update for its mobile app, which now includes a companion app specifically designed for Apple Watch users. This update comes just in time for the launch of Rivian’s 2026.03 OTA, which will feature enhancements such as a revamped Kneel Mode and improved cold-weather range visibility.

With the new Apple Watch app, Rivian drivers can now seamlessly connect and control essential features of their R1 without needing to carry their iPhone with them. Functions such as unlocking or locking the doors, sounding the alarm, and even opening the windows can all be accessed with a simple tap on the Apple Watch.

For Gen1 drivers, unlocking and locking the vehicle is as easy as tapping the lock icon on the app, while Gen 2 customers benefit from passive entry, which automatically unlocks the vehicle as they approach. Rivian has promised further updates to the Apple Watch app, introducing new features and designs over time to enhance the user experience.

In addition to the Apple Watch app, Rivian has also added Sport Mode to all variants, including the performance model and the base Dual-Motor models. This mode offers optimized power delivery and quick acceleration compared to regular driving mode. Drivers can now adjust the ride height to “standard” when Sport Mode is active, addressing feedback from users who preferred the look and feel of a higher ride while still enjoying the responsiveness of Sport Mode.

Another exciting update is the expansion of Launch Mode to all variants and generations of the Rivian Ev. Previously available only on second-generation Quad Motor R1 and R1S models, Launch Mode prepares the vehicle for quick acceleration from a standstill position. To activate Launch Mode, drivers must select Sport Mode, press the flag icon, and simultaneously hold the brake and accelerator on a clear, flat surface.

Rivian’s flagship model will also receive an update to the Kneel Mode, allowing for a “lower” setting that can lower the vehicle by an additional inch based on the variant and tires. This update aims to improve ease of entry and exit, addressing the challenge posed by the R1’s high ground clearance and seat positioning.

Furthermore, Rivian has introduced cold-weather improvements, including a transparency indicator for the winter effect on range. A cold weather indicator now appears on the battery icon and Energy App, displaying the energy used to keep the battery warm. This feature helps drivers understand if some range may be temporarily unavailable until the battery reaches its optimal operating temperature.
