Apple enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating the release of the iPhone Duo, set to hit the shelves tomorrow. However, early adopters may have to wait a bit longer for certain features, such as Apple Pencil support. While the new foldable device was unveiled with the promise of compatibility with the Apple Pencil (specifically the USB-C version), this functionality will not be available at launch but is expected to arrive later this year.

The absence of Apple Pencil support on launch day may disappoint some users, but the good news is that the wait won’t be too long. The iPhone Duo comes pre-installed with iOS 27.1, a unique version exclusive to this model. Despite initial assumptions, it seems that the iPhone Duo will receive the iOS 27.2 update, just like other iPhone models.

Surprisingly, iOS 27.1 may have the shortest lifespan of any Apple build, as the company has already rolled out the iOS 27.2 RC (Release Candidate) for the iPhone Duo. Early reviewers have confirmed that the Apple Pencil works seamlessly with this update. The public release of iOS 27.2 is expected around October 26, giving users the option to either wait for the official update or join the Apple Beta Software Program to access the RC build.

It’s important to note that the iPhone Duo exclusively supports the Apple Pencil (USB-C), making it necessary for iPad Air and iPad Pro owners with the Apple Pencil Pro to purchase a different stylus for the iPhone Duo. Apple initially considered a custom stylus for the iPhone Duo but ultimately decided to add support for the existing Apple Pencil due to technical challenges.

Despite the unconventional stylus support, the iPhone Duo stands out as a unique device, offering a more tablet-like experience than a traditional smartphone. With its focus on versatility and innovation, the iPhone Duo marks a significant departure from Apple’s previous products and opens up possibilities for future developments in stylus technology.
