Reheated Tech: Exploring the iPhone 17e’s Familiar Features
The iPhone 17e: A Detailed Review
Apple has finally unveiled the much-anticipated iPhone 17e, and the reactions seem to be mixed. While some users might find it underwhelming, others might not be overwhelmed either, describing their response as “whelmed.”
After months of speculation and rumors, most of which turned out to be true, there were few surprises in Apple’s announcement. The introduction of a new pale pink colorway was perhaps the only unexpected element, albeit not particularly striking.
However, there were some notable omissions. One of the rumored features, the Dynamic Island, failed to make its way to the 17e, leaving potential buyers with a product that is described as sensible, respectable, but somewhat lacking in innovation.
On the bright side, Apple did deliver on one of the most requested features for the 17e: MagSafe charging. This puts the affordable iPhone ahead of some of its pricier competitors like the Galaxy S26 range, which lacks this feature.

According to charging expert Simon Jary from Macworld, the MagSafe charging on the 17e offers 15W speeds, slightly lower than the newer iPhones with 25W charging capability.
Another highlight of the iPhone 17e is the upgrade to Apple’s latest A19 chip, as emphasized in the announcement. However, it comes in a four-core variant, indicating a cost-saving measure by Apple for its budget-friendly model.
While the performance difference may not be noticeable in everyday use for most 17e users, it reflects the inclusion of some second-rate or outdated components in a phone that still comes with a hefty price tag.
Apple has also left some features unchanged from its predecessor, such as the 6.1-inch OLED screen with a basic 60Hz refresh rate and 1200 nits peak brightness, along with thick bezels.

Apple
With only one rear camera and a lack of the 24Mp upgrade for the selfie camera seen in other iPhone 17 models, buyers might miss out on features like Center Stage and Dual Capture.
Overall, the iPhone 17e seems to lack the innovation and excitement that usually accompany Apple’s flagship releases. It appears more as a cost-effective option for those unwilling to splurge on higher-end models. While it may not be the phone Apple is actively promoting, it still offers a decent package for budget-conscious buyers.
For users seeking the best value for their money, exploring refurbished iPhone 17 models or considering alternative mid-range Android phones might be a more rewarding choice.
