High-Octane Showdown: Red Bull BMW M2 Drift Car Battles Huracan Performante in 1,100 HP Race
Red Bull Driftbrothers BMW M2 vs Lamborghini Huracan Performante: A Drag Race Clash
- Witness an epic showdown between a 1,100hp BMW M2 by Red Bull Driftbrothers and a 640hp Lamborghini Huracan Performante in a thrilling drag race.
- The BMW M2, equipped with rear-wheel drive and a five-speed sequential gearbox, challenges the all-wheel-drive advantage of the Huracan Performante.
- A stock 480hp BMW M2 also joins the race, highlighting the massive power difference it faces against its heavily modified counterpart.
When it comes to drag races, building a 1,100hp drift car may not seem like the logical choice for victory. However, the Red Bull-liveried BMW M2, stripped of its original purpose and rebuilt for drifting, is set to challenge the speed of the Lamborghini Huracan Performante. The real question here is not just about speed but whether a car tuned for drifting can effectively convert that power into straight-line acceleration to outperform a formidable opponent.
Unveiling the Red Bull Drift Car’s Performance Enhancements
The BMW M2 Drift Competition, known for its Red Bull branding, is a creation of the Driftbrothers team led by Elias Hountondji. Designed specifically for the 2026 Drift Masters European Championship, this BMW M2 underwent a comprehensive overhaul by the 229performance workshop. The team’s collaboration with BMW M dates back to 2021 when they introduced the M4 Competition drift cars based on a similar engine platform. The M2 represents a more compact and powerful iteration of their previous project.
Powered by the S58 twin-turbo straight-six engine, commonly found in the G87 M2 and M3/M4 models, the Red Bull BMW M2 features a custom Xona Rotor Single Turbo Fresh Air Antilag System, boosting its output to over 1,100hp and 1,200Nm. The enhanced performance required extensive modifications, including an enlarged cooling system, reinforced block, and additional chassis reinforcement to withstand prolonged drift sessions rather than short bursts of acceleration.

The power delivery is exclusively directed to the rear wheels through a five-speed sequential gearbox, emphasizing agility and precision over all-wheel-drive stability. Weighing approximately 1,220 kg, the Red Bull M2 boasts an exceptional power-to-weight ratio, engineered to excel in controlled drift maneuvers.
Challenging the Status Quo with the Huracan Performante
The Lamborghini Huracan Performante represents a stock configuration with a 5.2-liter V10 engine generating 640hp and 600Nm. Equipped with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox and all-wheel drive, the Performante compensates for its weight of 1,482kg with advanced traction capabilities and launch control technology.
Despite having half the horsepower of the Red Bull M2, the Huracan’s all-wheel-drive system and efficient transmission offer unparalleled launch performance, making it a formidable contender in drag races.
Additionally, a standard G87 M2 is included in the competition, underscoring the significant power gap between the stock model and the high-performance drift car.
Redefining Expectations: The Race Dynamics
While the Red Bull M2 appears to hold a substantial advantage on paper, its design for drifting presents a unique challenge in drag racing. The Huracan’s immediate launch capabilities and all-wheel-drive system may secure an early lead, but the BMW’s superior power output and turbo response could potentially close the gap once in motion.
The ultimate test lies in whether the Red Bull M2 can harness its massive power effectively on a straight line with limited traction and manual transmission control.
Stay tuned to witness the outcome of this thrilling showdown.
