BYD Recalls 115,000 EVs for Design Flaws and Battery Safety Concerns

BYD Recalls Over 115,000 Vehicles Due to Design Defects and Safety Risks
BYD has issued a recall for more than 115,000 vehicles, citing design defects and battery-related safety risks. The affected models include the Tang Series and Yuan Pro vehicles manufactured between 2015 and 2022.
Design Flaws in Tang Series Vehicles
BYD has reported to the State Administration for Market Regulation about the recall of 44,535 Tang Series vehicles. The recall focuses on potential design flaws in certain components that could lead to abnormal functions. This issue affects Tang Series vehicles produced between March 2015 and July 2017.
The malfunction in the drive motor controller of the Tang Series vehicles can cause the circuit board to corrode during use. This corrosion can result in the failure of the pure electric drive mode, posing a safety risk to drivers.
Battery Installation Issue in Yuan Pro EVs
Furthermore, BYD has recalled over 71,248 Yuan Pro EVs due to a manufacturing issue affecting battery installation. The problem impacts vehicles manufactured between February 2021 and August 2022. The battery housing in these vehicles can allow water to penetrate when driving at high speeds through water, leading to a degradation of insulation performance.

Remedial Actions
BYD plans to address the battery issue by applying a sealant to the housing to prevent further damage and power loss. Affected users can receive free fixes at any authorized dealership and a software update to address the motor issue. The software update will change the discharge method to motor-motor discharge.
Customers impacted by the recall will be notified through registered phone calls, text messages, mail, or by contacting the customer service hotline at 4008-303-666. They can also visit the websites of the State Administration for Market Regulation for more information.
