Recently, Bethesda has rolled out the Free Lanes update for Starfield in conjunction with the game’s launch on PlayStation 5. Here are the comprehensive patch notes for the update!

Update Notes

Features

  • Introducing Free Lanes: Players can now utilize cruise mode to navigate through open space or travel to Points of Interest (POI) locations between planets within a star system.
  • Enhanced X-Tech crafting support for Weapons and Armor, enabling players to further personalize the legendary effects on their gear.
  • Additional Quality Tiers incorporated into weapons and suits.
  • Introduction of Rank 4 Legendary effects for weapons and suits.
  • Integration of Upgrade modules to enhance one attribute of a weapon or Suit.
  • New weapon skins available for select weapons at a workbench.
  • Introduction of a buildable ship optimization terminal where players can spend X-Tech to enhance various attributes of their ship.
  • Inclusion of Ship Equipment schematics, allowing players to add new equipment in the ship builder once discovered.
  • Legendary Enemy Modifiers introduced, making legendary enemies more challenging with new modifiers.
  • Settings for Legendary Enemy Modifiers added to Gameplay Options, enabling players to adjust when these modifiers start appearing.

  • Resolved sound effects issue for the Reactive legendary effect on Reactive Equipment.
  • Addressed inconsistency in NPC weapon damage calculations.
  • Fixed CombaTech magazine accuracy bonuses not consistently applying.
  • Players can now jump while reloading the XM-2311, Old Earth Pistol, and Livingstone’s Pistol.
  • Interactivity with bounty targets in cities should now function correctly.
  • Fixed non-combat background music not playing in certain situations.
  • Resolved issues when entering photomode while in an interior.
  • Fixed display issues with the player’s right foot in photomode.

Quests

  • Improved quest functionality for “Friends Like These” allowing players to return Terrormorph data.
  • Fixed quest initiation for “Guilty Parties” after completing “Background Checks”.
  • Addressed player lock issue with an invalid companion in “Missed Beyond Measure”.
  • Visibility of the player’s helmet in “One Giant Leap” improved.
  • All weapons required for “Refurbished Goods” quest should now be findable.
  • Quest turn-in for “Refurbished Goods” will no longer take incorrect items from the player’s inventory.
  • Completion of “The Hammer Falls” now rewards players with the Star Eagle ship.
  • Resolved control lock issue in “Two Tales, Two Cities” when choosing to arrest Tahir.

Locations

  • Beds in Akila City now grant Rested Bonus as intended.
  • Correct sitting behavior of characters in the Explorer’s Refuge.

UI

  • Improved placement of Weapons Workbenches in houses or ships.
  • Visual enhancements to Ship Repair UI.
  • Resolved issues with unique or stolen ships not being renameable in Ship Builder.
  • Fixed duplicate ship model persistence in Ship Builder after modifications.
  • Accessibility of Hopetech All-In-One Berth 2×2 furnished version in Ship Builder.
  • UI improvements for Large Font Mode in Ship Builder and Outpost.
  • Added functionality to back out of renaming an item in a workbench using the escape key (PC).
  • Corrected typo in Scan Jammer’s description.

Shattered Space

  • Updated music for The Oracle.

Creations

  • Resolved spawning issue for Ashta in “A Perfect Recipe”.
  • Updated description for Plushie Andreja.
  • Plushies can now be placed in Plushie cases in “At Hell’s Gate”.
  • Improved placement of “Plushie Case – Mount” closer to the “Plushie Case – Stackable” variant.
  • Visibility of Allied Winter Camo Skins in Creation menu enhanced.
