Apple has recently updated its Sports app, allowing users to track their favorite teams on the dashboard with two new widgets. This update may not provide the full CarPlay experience promised earlier, but it’s a significant enhancement nonetheless.

Unlike many first-party apps from Apple, Apple Sports receives frequent updates, averaging about once a month. This consistent attention from the company sets it apart from other iPhone apps, which often become outdated or forgotten over time.

Since its launch two years ago, Apple Sports has seen several updates, introducing new leagues and features such as Live Activities, shareable game score cards, and Home Screen widgets. These updates have kept the app engaging and relevant for sports fans.

In conjunction with the CarPlay improvements in iOS 26, users can now follow their favorite teams on the go with two new CarPlay widgets for Apple Sports. These widgets also serve as StandBy widgets, providing users with quick access to live scores and schedules while their iPhone is docked on a MagSafe charger.

The “My Teams” widget displays live scores and schedules for users’ favorite teams without additional customization. On the other hand, the “League” widget allows users to view the latest standings for a league of their choice, ranging from MLB and NFL to Formula 1 and the PGA Tour. Users can stack multiple widgets to follow multiple leagues, although there are limits to the total number of widgets allowed.

To add widgets to StandBy mode, users can place their iPhone in landscape mode while charging, enabling StandBy mode and accessing the widgets screen. For CarPlay widgets, users can add them through the Settings app on their iPhone under General > CarPlay > [car name] > Widgets.

The latest update, Apple Sports 3.10, includes support for the upcoming World Cup 2026. This update was briefly available earlier in the month but disappeared from the App Store, only to reappear later with additional features such as weather conditions for Formula 1 Grands Prix.

Apple Sports is available as a free download on the App Store in select countries, including the US, Canada, the UK, Mexico, and various European countries.
